  • This paper describes a systematic approach that is used todiagnose and mitigate corrosion problems in hydroprocessing unitreactor effluent air cooler systems. The methodology is based on anextensive evaluation of hydroprocessing water wash best practicesand addresses both design and operational issues by usingstate-of-the-art process engineering and corrosion predictionmodels. The goal is to develop cost-effective and robust solutionsto reliability problems in reactor effluent air coolers andassociated piping. The paper provides examples where this knowledgeand methodology have been applied effectively to a variety ofhydroprocessing units around the world.
